This store, at galtmusic.com/lessons, is run by Saher Galt Singing Lessons (“we,” “us”). In the interest of total transparency, this page explains what information, if any, we collect when you visit, buy something, take a lesson or read our emails. It also covers why we collect it, who helps us handle it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
The summary
- We value your privacy. We do not sell your data, ever.
- We collect only what is necessary to distribute the lessons and downloads, deliver them, and reply to you.
- We don’t run ads, and the website has no analytics or advertising trackers.
- Card numbers go straight to PayPal or Stripe. They never reach our server, and we never store them.
- You can unsubscribe, see what data we have collected about you, or ask us to delete it at any time.
What we collect and why
When you buy something
Checkout asks for your name and email address, plus anything the payment form needs, such as a postal code. For each order we keep a record of what you bought, the price, the date, how you paid, the payment company’s transaction reference, and the IP address the order came from. We use this to deliver what you paid for, send your receipt, help if something goes wrong, prevent fraud, and keep the tax and accounting records the law requires.
You don’t need an account to buy. PayPal or Stripe takes your payment and tells us whether it went through. Subscriptions are billed and managed by PayPal. If you start a PayPal checkout and leave before finishing, PayPal may send you a reminder email; that email comes from PayPal, not from us.
When you download a file
Your download links are unique to your order. Each time a file is downloaded, we log the date, the file and the IP address it went to, so we can help if a download fails and notice if a link is being passed around.
When you take a lesson
One-on-one lessons take place over Zoom. To set them up we’ll exchange emails about scheduling and your time zone, and probably about your voice, your experience and your goals. This is a simple email exchange and is never stored, processed or used in any further way. The call itself is handled via Zoom.
When you join the newsletter
Signing up gives us your email address, date and, if you choose to add it, your name.
Our newsletter emails may contain images and it is possible to see if a message has been opened because the image will have been loaded. You can block even this by turning off images in your email app, and every newsletter has an unsubscribe link.
When you contact us
The contact form emails us what you type into it, usually your name, email address, message and diagnostic information. We use it to reply and keep the conversation for as long as it helps us help you.
When you browse
Like every web server, ours records basic technical details about each visit: IP address, browser type, the page requested, the page you came from and the time. We use these logs to keep the site running and secure. We don’t use Google Analytics, or any other analytics or advertising service, and never track you around this site or the web.
Who helps us run the store
Our store, order records and mailing list run on our own website rather than on an outside marketing platform, so that information lives on our server. A few companies handle narrow, specific tasks for us, and each receives only what it needs for that job:
- Our hosting provider runs the server that the website and its database live on.
- PayPal processes PayPal payments and subscriptions. See PayPal’s privacy statement.
- Stripe processes card payments at checkout and screens them for fraud. See Stripe’s privacy policy.
- Amazon Web Services stores and delivers the files you buy and sends our emails, including receipts and the newsletter. See the AWS privacy notice.
- Google reCAPTCHA checks that our forms are being filled in by a person, not a spam bot. Google’s privacy policy and terms of service apply.
- Zoom is the platform for the lesson video calls. See Zoom’s privacy statement.
Beyond these, we disclose personal information only when the law requires it or when it’s needed to deal with fraud or protect our customers or the store.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a website asks your browser to keep. We use only the ones the site needs to work:
- Cart cookies remember what’s in your cart as you move from page to page and through checkout.
- Security cookies from Google reCAPTCHA, and from Stripe on the checkout page, help tell real visitors from bots and catch fraud.
If a page includes an embedded video, such as one from YouTube, the video service may set its own cookies when the page loads. The website itself uses no advertising cookies or tracking pixels. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings, but if you block them all, the cart and checkout won’t work.
How long we keep things
- Orders, payment records and download logs: for as long as necessary to serve them and as long as tax and accounting rules require us to keep them, which is usually several years.
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe. After that we keep your address marked as unsubscribed so it isn’t added back by mistake. If you’d like it erased completely, just ask.
- Emails and contact messages: for as long as they’re useful in helping you.
- Server and security logs: only as long as they’re needed for security and troubleshooting.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you and send you a copy;
- correct anything that’s wrong;
- delete your information, apart from records we have to keep by law, such as orders needed for taxes;
- take you off the newsletter (or use the unsubscribe link in any newsletter);
- limit how we use your information, or stop a particular use you object to.
Email privacy@galtmusic.com from the address we have on file, so we know the request really comes from you. We’ll respond within 30 days, at no charge, and using these rights will never change the price or quality of anything we offer you.
We don’t sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising, so there’s nothing to opt out of there. For the same reason, browser signals such as Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track have nothing to switch off here: we don’t do the tracking they ask websites to stop.
Visitors in the EU, UK and Canada
We rely on these legal grounds to use your information:
- Contract: to process your order, deliver your downloads and teach lessons you’ve booked.
- Consent: to send you the newsletter. You can withdraw it at any time by unsubscribing.
- Legitimate interests: to answer your messages, keep the site secure and prevent fraud and spam.
- Legal obligation: to keep tax and accounting records.
You can also ask for your information in a format you can take to another provider, and you have the right to complain to your data protection authority, such as the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. We’d be grateful for the chance to put things right first, so please write to us.
Where your information is kept and how it’s protected
We’re based in the United States, and your information is stored and processed mainly in the United States. If you visit from another country, it will be transferred there, and where the law requires it, the companies we work with use recognized safeguards for that transfer.
The whole site runs over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Card details are entered into forms run by PayPal and Stripe and never touch our server. Access to customer records is limited to the people who run the store. No system is perfectly secure, but we take security seriously and take reasonable steps to protect what you give us.
A few more things
Children
This site isn’t aimed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we’ll delete it.

Links to other websites, including payment pages and social media, lead to sites run by other companies under their own privacy policies.
Changes to this policy
When we update this policy, we’ll change the date at the top.
